Analysis of the 6-stroke SI engine cycle when using fuels with high hydrogen content
This paper presents a thermodynamic analysis of a 6-stroke thermodynamic cycle dedicated to implementation in spark-ignition engines. It was assumed that in the first part of the cycle, a mixture of hydrogen and methane is combusted under supra-stoichiometric conditions. The resulting exhaust gas contains oxygen, which can be used to realise the subsequent combustion process. In the second part of the cycle, hydrogen is introduced after charge expansion, in an amount that ensures combustion of the residual oxygen present in the flue gas. Calculations were carried out for a variable fuel composition (methane-hydrogen mixture) and different values of the excess air ratio in the first part of the cycle.
