Electromagnetic field intensity in electric vehicles: correlation with motor load during real-world operation

This study explores the relationship between motor load and electromagnetic field (EMF) intensity within an electric vehicle (EV) operating under dynamic real-world conditions. High-resolution time series data were collected using onboard diagnostic tools and precision magnetic field sensors, allowing for detailed analysis of EMF variations in relation to key powertrain parameters, including engine torque, current consumption, and vehicle velocity. Statistically significant correlations were observed between EMF fluctuations and motor load, with pronounced field intensity spikes occurring during acceleration and regenerative braking events. Time-synchronized telemetry enabled a comprehensive temporal assessment, revealing instances where EMF levels exceeded common exposure thresholds under peak load scenarios. The findings underscore the need to consider EMF exposure as a factor in the design and operation of electric vehicles, particularly with respect to passenger safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). Additionally, the study introduces a methodological framework for incorporating EMF monitoring into advanced diagnostic and development processes for next-generation electric powertrains.
