Some types of Diesel Particle Filters using in diesel engines can result in higher NO2 emissions in the exhaust gases. This article presents the toxic properties of NO2, causes of the NO2 presence in the exhaust gases and describes the results of measurements of pollutant emissions, including NO2, during testing of diesel engines in standard tests (WHTC, WHSC, ETC, ESC) used for emissions measurement. Particular attention was given to increased NO2 emissions due to malfunction of SCR reactors caused by unauthorized blocking of urea supply to SCR.
