Evaluation of the contribution of road transport in air pollution with nitrogen oxides on the example of Wrocław

Road transport is one of the most important source of the emission of nitrogen oxides, especially in urban areas. However, in addition, other sources of that pollutants are found in cities, such as industrial plants, power plants or residential areas with individual heating systems. Therefore, even when the measurements of concentrations in ambient air are conducted, determining the real contribution of transport sources is difficult. In the article the determining the contribution of road transport in air pollution with nitrogen oxides in the urban area has been assumed. The analysis has been made on the example of Wroclaw, in the vicinity of the air quality monitoring station. For this purpose, the data on concentrations of NOx in ambient air measured on monitoring station belonging to Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection of Lower Silesia, traffic intensity from Intelligent Transport System in Wroclaw and meteorological data were used. Statistical analyses and backward trajectory simulations (inflow of pollutants) were carried out using the HYSPLIT Trajectory Model.
