RESEARCH ON THE EFFECT OF DIESEL FUEL INJECTION PARAMETERS ON THE EXHAUST EMISSIONS IN THE CHARGED CI ENGINE FUELLED WITH PROPANE

The paper presents the results of a dual-fuel, charged compression-ignition engine fueled with propane. The main goal of the research was to power the engine in such way that the energy supplied with propane was as large as possible, while maintaining high efficiency, low emission of harmful exhaust components, while maintaining the correct combustion process. As previous research has shown, with the increase of energy coming from propane, there are significant changes in the combustion process, which can be a barrier to further increase of propane energy. Therefore, it was decided to change the parameters of diesel fuel injection. The introduced changes in the injection parameters allowed for a 70% energy share of gaseous fuel, with simultaneous elimination of unfavorable phenomena. Therefore, the diesel injection was divided into two doses. The proportions and injection timing both doses were changed. The first dose injection timing was changed in a wide range and depended on the value of the boost pressure, the injection timing of the second dose was changed in a much narrower range, mainly due to a very significant change in the nature of the combustion process. The results were presented in the form of the characteristic pilot injection timing, for several variants of air boost pressure. The test was repeated for three pilot dose quantities and three values start of injection main dose and for three values of boost pressures i.e.: 200, 400, 600 [mbar], as well as for the naturally aspirated engine version. The obtained results indicate that the content of exhaust components of a dual-fuel engine strongly depends on the injection parameters and also on the engine's boost pressure.
