ANALYSIS OF THERMAL PARAMETERS OF HEAT STORAGES FOR USE IN VEHICLES WITH COMBUSTION ENGINES

The propulsion system of a vehicle using a combustion engine generates a significant amount of waste heat during operation, which is almost entirely discharged into the environment without effective use. There are known methods of heat recovery from the cooling system and exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine, and then its use, e.g. in a flow machine, thus enabling generation of additional effective power in the drive system. Another way to use waste heat is to store it, and then pick up, for example, when starting the engine with the cold state. The application of the indicated solution, in particular for the military vehicle will allow to reduce the consequences of cold start (exposure of internal components of the power unit to acceleration of wear processes, increased fuel consumption and emission of harmful substances) and reduce the time needed to prepare military vehicle for combat operation. The article reviews the technologies and parameters of heat storages that could be used in a military vehicle, unit indexes of heat accumulation in relation to the volume of the heat storage and its mass, as well as the results of preliminary tests carried out on the test bench.
