Representativeness of toxic substances emissions in bench tests that reflect the traffic conditions of a vehicle

The eco-efficiency level of automotive internal combustion engines is examined at almost every stage of the vehicle's lifecycle. Initial research is carried out in the phase of creating the very concept of the engine and its prototype tests, the measurements are carried out at the production stage, admission to traffic or during diagnostic tests already in the vehicle's operational phase. It turned out that the results of real traffic measurements are significantly different from the results of stationary approval tests. Therefore, various solutions are created to verify the actual emissions from vehicles traveling on the road. One of such solutions is creation of stationary exhaust emission tests simulating road use of the vehicle. In the case of such tests, it is a problem to obtain an adequate representativeness of various emission components between traffic values and those obtained as a result of stationary tests. One of the methods to determine the correctness of designing a stationary test is to determine the amount of work done by the engine. The article presents selected results obtained in this type of research.
